Vitamin D is important for building strong bones and strengthen existing bones. Without vitamin D your body will not be able to absorb calcium in order to build and strengthen bones in your body.

Vitamin D is different from other minerals in our body because it can manufacture this vitamin in the presence of sunlight.
Deficiency of vitamin D in children results in soft, brittle bones. This condition is called rickets. In adults the bones become soft, weak and leads to condition called osteoporosis.
Weak bones can result in fractures in both children and adults.
